BMA Goonyella Riverside Mine Dewatering Screens Upgrade
Goonyella Riverside Mine, Moranbah, QLD

Project Details

As a leading electrical mining contractor, CE Group was brought in to upgrade the mine’s Coal Preparation Plant 1 (CPP1) Fine Rejects Dewatering system. Goonyella Riverside Mine (GRM), a key coal mining operation in the Bowen Basin, is located approximately 30km north of Moranbah and 190km southwest of Mackay. The primary goal of this project was to address a significant plant bottleneck, thereby increasing production rates and improving overall system reliability.

The upgrade required not only replacing the existing dewatering screen but also installing larger dual screens. This upgrade was necessary to rectify a system identified as a single point of failure (SPF), which previously halted production when unavailable. By making these improvements, the mine could significantly boost productivity and ensure redundancy, therefore reducing the risk of operational disruptions.

As part of this extensive SMP (Structural, Mechanical, and Piping) and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) overhaul, CE Group took on several key tasks. These included the supply and installation of new Motor Control Center (MCC) cells, which were crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems. Additionally, CE Group provided and installed all pneumatic equipment, power and control cabling, and instrumentation across the entire site.

Furthermore, the project required the installation of remote I/O panels and remote local control stations, which enhanced the operational efficiency of the mine. These installations allowed for better control and monitoring of key systems, ensuring that, moving forward, production could continue without unnecessary interruptions.

Throughout the project, CE Group leveraged its extensive expertise as an electrical mining contractor to deliver high-quality results. The team worked closely with key stakeholders to ensure the project was completed on time and within budget, while also maintaining the highest safety standards.

This successful collaboration at Goonyella Riverside Mine further reinforces CE Group’s reputation as a trusted electrical mining contractor. Their proven ability to manage complex electrical and instrumentation projects in challenging mining environments ensures that clients achieve optimal operational outcomes while maintaining the highest levels of safety and efficiency.
