As part of the Goonyella Riverside Mine Fire and High Pressure Water Upgrade, CE Group was engaged to fabricate, transport, install, and commission the BHP-specified RV Switchroom. CE Group, a leading switchroom manufacturer, managed this project during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite supply chain challenges, the team successfully navigated delays by maintaining positive and transparent relationships with key stakeholders.

Working closely with subcontractor Fredbuild, CE Group ensured consistent quality and project continuity throughout the duration. This collaborative effort set a strong foundation for future opportunities, as lessons learned from the project will shape continued growth. The proactive engagement of CE Group with stakeholders before, during, and after installation was a key factor in its success.

The scope of works included the design and construction of the prefabricated switchroom. This included features such as an airlock, structural supports, landings, and access stairs. CE Group also handled the installation of light and power systems and the design and construction of the Motor Control Centre (MCC). Additionally, the team supplied and installed three ABB VVVF Drives (ACS880-Series Drive 570a) and constructed a fire detection and suppression system.

Moreover, the project included the installation of an HVAC system to maintain optimal environmental conditions within the switchroom. The switchroom, weighing 15 tonnes, was safely transported from CE Group’s manufacturing facility in Loganholme to Goonyella Riverside Mine (GRM). The project culminated in full RPEQ certification, further showcasing CE Group’s expertise in complex switchroom projects.

Overall, the successful delivery of this project highlights CE Group’s capability as a trusted switchroom manufacturer, excelling even in challenging circumstances. This key milestone demonstrates CE Group’s proactive stakeholder management and technical excellence in switchroom fabrication and installation.
